　　    ERNEST HEMINGWAY （1899-1961），American author. Between the nud-igzos and the mid-950s， he produced most of his work， and in 1954 he won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Hemingway's fiction was successful because the characters he presented exhibited authenticity that resonated with his audience.
　　    Many ofhis works are classics of American literature.  The most famous of Hemingway's novels are The Sun Also Rises（1926）， A FareweH to Arms（1929）， The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber （1935），For Whom the Bell Tolls（1940）， and The Old Man and the Sea （1951）.

　　    《太阳也照样升起》发表于1926年，是海明威写作的第一部长篇小说，表现一战后一些青年流落欧洲的不幸命运。作品的主线是美国记者杰克·巴恩斯与英国姑娘勃瑞特·艾希利的恋爱故事，杰克在一战中负伤，丧失了性能力；勃瑞特也在战争中失去了亲人，二人相恋却无法结合。另一个追求勃瑞特的美国作家罗伯特，科恩虽仍对生活抱有浪漫的幻想，而实际上观念陈腐、虚妄。作品表现了战争给这些青年人带来的生理和心理上的创伤。 
　　    一次，美国先锋作家斯坦因夫人曾对海明威说：“你们都是迷惘的一代”，海明威将这句话作为本书题词，因而，《太阳也照样升起》成了“迷惘的一代”的代表作。
