　　    楼庆西，一九三零年出生于浙江杭州。一九五二年毕业于清华大学建筑系，留校担任教学与科研工作至今。长期从事建筑历史的研究，近期主要著作有：《中国建筑艺术全集——建筑装修与装饰》、《中国建筑的门文化》、《中国古建筑二十一讲》、《中国建筑小品十讲》、《凝视——楼庆西建筑摄影集》等。

　　    The Chinese house with the "bay" an a unit which is the space within four columns is a simple rectangle in plan .It is enither complex in outside appearance,nor big in proportion, and this is true for ordinary peoples quadrangles as well for the feudal emperors palaces.
