　　    儒勒·凡尔纳（1828-1905）生于法国的南特。他还在巴黎求学时就开始给剧院编剧了。他的第一部小说是《气球上的五星期》（1862），此后他又陆续创作了60多部科幻小说和冒险故事，成为当时最著名的作家之一。

　　    美国南北战争结束后，大炮俱乐部主席巴比康提议向月球发射一颗炮弹，建立地球与月球之间的联系。法国冒险家阿当获悉这一消息后建议造一颗空心炮弹，他邀请巴比康和尼科尔一同乘这颗炮弹到月球去探险。三个人克服了种种困难，终于乘坐这颗炮弹向月球出发了。可是他们并没有到达目的地，炮弹没有在月球上着陆，却成为月球的卫星，无止境地绕月运行，三位探险家的命运无人能知……
