　　蔡志忠，台湾著名漫画家。1999年12月8日获得荷兰克劳斯王子基金会颁奖，表彰他通过漫画将中国传统哲学与文学作出了史无前例的再创造。蔡志忠从十五岁起便开始成为职业漫画家。1976年成立龙卡通公司，拍摄了《老夫子》、《乌龙院》等长篇动画电影，曾获1981年金马奖最佳卡通片奖。1983年开始创作四格漫画，至今己有《庄子说》、《老子说》、《大醉侠》、《光头神探》等100多部作品在44多个国家和地区以多种语种版本出版，销量超过了4000万册！他连续两年获台湾10名畅销书作家之首。蔡志忠用简洁生动的线条描绘了一部部颇具影响的漫画书，在台湾、香港、新加坡、日本、马来西亚等地广受欢迎。他的作品庄子说、老子说、禅说、史记、西游记、聊斋系列等开启了中国古籍经典漫画的先河。

　　《世说新语》是中国魏晋南北朝时期“志人小说”的代表作，由〔南朝宋〕刘义庆编撰。依内容有：“德行”、“言语”、“政事”、“文学”等，共三十六类，每类收有若干则，全书共一千多则，每则文字长短不一，有的数行，有的三言两语，从此可见笔记小说“随手而记”的特性。
　　《世说新语》主要记述士人的生活和思想，及统治阶级的情况，反映了魏晋时期文人的思想言行，和上层社会的生活面貌，记载颇为丰富真实，这样的描写有助读者了解当时士人所处的时代状况及政治社会环境，更让我们清楚地看到了所谓“魏晋清谈”的风貌。
　　《世说新语》是中国志人小说中的名著，千百年来为文人雅士所喜爱，成为案头必备之书。它主要记叙的是汉末至东晋时期士族的风俗、风尚和奇闻趣事，最集中、最充分、最生动地表现了魏晋士人那种自由的精神、脱俗的言行、超逸的风度。其涉及内容丰富，反映现实深刻，在中国小说中自成一体，对后代笔记小说影响极大。 这个选本意在让读者对《世说新语》一书有一大致的了解，三十六门每门都有选收，又有所侧重，能反映当时典型的人物风习以及对后世文化影响较大的内容选收较多，同时也注重故事的文学性、趣味性。注释和翻译过程中，吸收了前辈学者的研究成果。
